What is a Chiropractic Physician?
Chiropractic
physicians are licensed primary health-care providers. They may
diagnose all conditions of the human body by physical examination,
x-ray, MRI, blood tests or any other diagnostic testing as taught
in chiropractic colleges and universities. They may treat by manipulation,
diet, exercise, rehabilitation, nutrition, acupuncture and physical
modalities such as traction, electrical stimulation, ultrasound,
soft tissue techniques and laser.

Do
Chiropractors Work with Other Healthcare Providers?
At Ross Clinic
the doctors have a strong working relationship with the medical
community in North Alabama. Many times we will work with the patient's
family physician, surgeon or other healthcare specialist as a
team to best resolve the patient's problem. We are also part of
a combined neurosurgical and chiropractic team established at
UAB's Kirkland Clinic. If necessary, in complicated cases, we
refer patients to various specialized medical facilities throughout
the country.
Education
To be accepted
in one of the top tier chiropractic colleges a student must have
completed their undergraduate training with a bachelor's degree
or higher. Chiropractic school is at least four years of professional
study at one of the 16 colleges in the United States accredited
by the Council on Chiropractic Education, a federally recognized
accrediting agency. Chiropractors may also specialize in areas
such as orthopedics, neurology, sports medicine and nutrition.
These require two to three years of study followed by specialty
board examinations.
Insurance
Most insurance
companies including Alabama and Federal Blue Cross and Blue Shield
reimburse for chiropractic services.
